Three Reasons Why I Can't Study Right Now...

First Post!

Hey everyone, I'll guess are start with who I am and why I'm here...

My name is Derek, I'm a college student and fledgling photographer. I am making this blog to track my progress, show some of my stuff, and hopefully help others learn something about this stuff.

The name of this blog is flash forward, I just thought it was catchy haha. The url is flashminimalism. I chose this because I've come from the Strobist movement and do most of my shoots with only one ore two strobes. A lot of this comes out of necessity and being a broke dude haha. I also want to show people that you don't have to be loaded or have the newest, fanciest, highest megapixel camera or the biggest, most powerful flashes to create some cool stuff. All it takes is a little more creativity, patience, and ingenuity to pull it off!

I'll end this first post with some info about my rig and stuff. To start things of I already mentioned that I am broke so that play into a lot. I also love anything DYI so that comes in a lot too.

Camera- Canon rebel xt
Lenses- stock Canon kit lense, Canon 50mm
Strobes- Nikon sb-24 and two old manual flash relics
Triggers- MPix cheapo triggers with antennae and AA battery mod, optical triggers.
Light Modifiers- homemade cardboard soft box, homemade beauty dish (my favorite), and anything else I can get my paws on... poster board, sheets, ect.

So thats about it for now, soon I will post some info and pictures of my homemade stuff and modified triggers and explain the opening picture and more tasty things to come. I dunno, I hope someone somewhere out there reading this blog will get something out of it eventually! haha
